Is it acceptable to place a private address in a public name server?

You can do that, though it's considered bad form. The real issue is,
however, that it probably won't work the way you want. There are
no routes to network 10 on the Internet, so someone looking up that
domain name will either end up going nowhere or will end up on one
of their own internal machines, if they use net 10 internally!
